Long ago, after the Evil Samurai Warlord was banished the first time, an era of peace and tranquility descended upon the empire for more than 300 years. The dark castles he had built were abandoned and slowly fell into ruin and the villagers across the countryside no longer lived in fear. As the years went by, the secret of the powerful Kuji magic was hidden away in ancient shrines, and the people of the villages and towns went back to their daily lives. Then one day, something changed. Terrible storms began to brew over the mountain on the distant horizon. Floods and earthquakes began to appear in the flatlands. At Ninja Mountain, The Ninja Master could see that something was terriby wrong in the world. Mysterious figures were seen hunting and caging animals for unknown reasons. The truth was that the Evil Samurai Warlord had returned, using the forbidden Kuji magic to transform innocent animals into mindless samurai warriors to use to recapture his dark castles and take over the world. But, by using the Kuji magic for evil purposes, the Evil Samurai Warlord was once again upsetting the balance of nature, bring the wrath of the gods down upon the earth in the form of ravaging storms. The larger his armies grew, the worse the storms became. The Ninja Master knew none of this yet... though he knew that something must be done and made it his unbreakable oath. He sent his best ninja to discover the truth of the storms, but no word returned from the ninja. One by one, he sent another, but again and again... nothing. Until he was left with only 2 left, Hiro and Futo. The Ninja Master was hesitant to send his last two, but he knew the fate of the world would lay in their hands.
[edit] Characters

Hiro: Hiro is the youngest of the Mini Ninjas, and also the main character of the game. Hiro's weapon is the sword, and he is the first Mini Ninja in centuries capable of using Kugi magic.

Futo: Futo is the largest Mini Ninja, and Hiro's best friend. He has a large appetite, and loves to eat apples. His weapon is the hammer, which is "not the usual way, but effective none the less."

Suzme: Suzme is "elegant but deadly" and never lets go of the flute her mothe gave her when she was a baby. Hiro likes Suzme and she knows it, but she claims to have "no time for boys".

Shun: Shun is the most energetic of the Mini Ninjas. When he was a baby, he tried to run off while still swaddled in his baby blanket! Shun's weapon is the bow and arrows, and he is an expert archer.

Tora: Tora was brought to ninja mountain in a cage. This was because Tora believed he was a real tiger! His weapon is a pair of hand-crafted claws, created to resemble the tiger he believes he is.

Kunoichi: Kunoichi is the only girl Mini Ninja besides Suzme. She is very secretive, and only allows her friends, the other Mini Ninjas, to come near her. Her weapon of choice is the spear, which is perfect for keeping multiple enimies at bay while melee brawling.
[edit] Development

Mini Ninjas was announced 19 January 2009 and the first official trailer was also released at the same time. [4] The game's origin lies in the developers desires to make a game that they could "play with their kids". [5] The game does not feature co-op play, but the player will be able to control all the mini-ninjas that they discover during the game.[5]

Mini Ninjas has been critically well received. IGN gave the game an 8 out of 10.[6]. The Guardian, awarded the game 4/5 concluding that "Mini Ninjas constant charm renders it calming and even relaxing to play... any parent watching Mini Ninjas being played will find it hard to resist the temptation to have a go of their own". The Times gave the game a 5 of 5, claiming "The only comparison that springs to mind for sheer inventiveness is Nintendo's Zelda series. The script is knowingly tongue in cheek while the characters themselves are so delightful that you might see them re-created as stuffed toys in the near future. If you don't have an excuse to buy it earlier, put this top of your Christmas list".

Main criticisms of the game come from lack of co-op option and lack of replay value.
