Activision's popular Skylanders franchise has crossed $500 million in retail sales in the U.S., according to data from the NPD Group which tracks monthly sales figures for the video game industry in the U.S. In 2012 alone, Skylanders Giants, the sequel to Skylanders Spyro's Adventure -- the #1 best-selling kids' game of 2011 -- generated more than
Activision noted that these sales numbers are inclusive of the accessory packs and figures which sell alongside the game. Together, Skylanders Giants and Skylanders Spyro's Adventure figurines have outsold the top action figure lines in the toy category in the U.S. Activision has a unique approach with its Skylanders franchise, combining the video game franchise with the toy line. Once players purchase the toy, that character then becomes playable in the Skylanders video game.
